Tokyo 2020: Jim Walmsley lost his ticket to the Tokyo Olympics

In the 2020 U.S. Olympic team trials marathon course in Atlanta, Georgia, on February 29, ultrarunning star Jim Walmsley failed to gain the entry of the Games in Japan. The trials determine the eventual three men and three women who will represent the U.S.

Walmsley spent 2 hours, 15 minutes and 5 seconds to finish the trials in the 22nd place. The eventual qualifiers were five more minutes faster than him.

Jim Walmsley is the champion of Western State 100-Mile Endurance Runs in 2018 and 2019, breaking the course records for both times.

The main loop of the trials is 8 miles, of which the athletes run three times. The feet of climbing in the course is 1389. Competitors begin the race in front of Centennial Olympic Park and reach the finish line inside it.
